Why It’s Different
In some ways, Thain is like many other roleplay servers. You make your character, and are presented with a world to explore. New settlements and enemies to discover, new secrets to learn, with your roleplay augmented by DMs driving your module story forward.
However, unlike other servers, Thain implements many player-side tools allowing you to drive your own character-driven stories.
For example, let’s say your character has a dangerous villain in their past, a dark handsome stranger from their homeland who they previously battled. As with any server, you could write, talk about, and imagine this villain and hope a DM will come along and play them for you. However, on Thain, you can also choose to move this story forward yourself using our player tools. You could use these tools to customize an NPC summon of your own, control it while playing your own character, and play the villain yourself in scenes with other PCs.
This means you always have options to move your personal story forward without waiting around for a DM to run it for you. All you need is a few other players to take an interest, and you can turn your character stories into group events like a DM. Involve others, draw them in, and show off your writing chops. These player events can be the lifeblood of Thain, with players and groups constantly building up character narrative for themselves and others, on top of the DM-driven stories and module lore.
