Constellations of Thain

Thain is home to many stargazers, and the elves in particular are known for their knowledge of the island’s constellations.  They tell stories of the Titans, rulers of the ancient world said to hail from the stars themselves.

Each constellation in the sky holds the name of one of the titans.  A description of each constellation as it is commonly known can be found below.

The Boundless Guardian contains the Twinned star of Moroko. A maternal spirit of the land, protective of cubs and young races, she is a guardian spirit of the northern and southern woods alike. She views the elves as her young cubs, still in need of protection, and is believed to have in moments of the woodland’s greatest need. People born under this constellation are said to have a powerful gaze and a strong sense of justice. The Bountiful Sapling contains the Emerald star of Leima, the forest titan. Youngest daughter of king Adikiam, she is said to have grown the northern woods like a garden. Kinder than her siblings, Leima was beloved by all within the north – yet she could not protect herself from the darkness that would come. Those born beneath the flowering oak have a healing touch and a strong connection to nature. The Cursed King contains the golden star of Adikiam. King of all titans and patriarch of those who fell to earth. It is said that the first kings of men were blessed by Adikiam, but in his latter days, he fell to madness and sought to tear down all that he had built. Those born beneath the sign of Adikiam are natural leaders and often find themselves in positions of power, but always must stand at risk of corruption.

The Endless Eye contains the ancient star of Aorra. A lesser titan of omen and ritual, she was gifted a foresight that none had ever possessed. It is said in her later years she was able to see the strands of fate. Other stories she wove the phoenix into existence, creatures outside of the cycle of life and death who might serve as its guardians. Though she taught the lesser races the power of ritual, her knowledge could not save her in the end. Those born beneath the Endless Eye are known to have a strong intuition and a natural ability to predict future events. The Raging Mountain, containing the ignited star of Togorr. A warleader among the lesser titans, he sought to unite the monsters of Thain under a single banner, ruling over all he gathered from high atop the mountains. A greater warrior was rarely seen – yet, even he could not survive the poison the dark elves gave him. People born under this constellation are said to be strong-willed and determined to overcome any obstacle, but may trust in others more than is warranted. The Sandswept Dragon contains the venomous star of Kotos. A titan of the shifting sands, Kotos is said to have taken the shape of a serpent so often that it become his true form. A progenitor of the asabi, he was mated to an the first among the dragons, and his venomous bite laid low some of the world’s greatest warriors. Those born beneath the Sandswept Dragon are unpredictable, chaotic, and adaptable.

The Silent Wolf contains the trailing star of Dhyttr. Dhyttr was a lord of beasts, a master hunter who’s domain was all of the woodland realms. He guarded his mate, Leima, until the end – yet no one truly knows what became of him in the days that followed. Those born beneath the sign of Dhyttr are said to be brave and fiercely protective of their loved ones, yet sometimes these instincts can give way to savagery. The Silver Ship contains the swirling star of Nautikos. A child of Adikiam, Nautikos explored the furthest reaches of the sea. In time, he came to make his home in the deepest caverns beneath Thain, where he is said to have shaped the monsters of the Underdark. Those born beneath the sign of the silver shape are said to be adventurous and unafraid of the unknown. The Singer’s Hammer contains the singing star of Agnar. A craftsman said to have shaped the mountains of Hammersong, Agnar ruled the southern peaks and commanded the fire giants to do his bidding. Agnar is revered by craftsmen, artists, and creators of all kinds, and those born beneath his sign are known for their boundless creativity.

The Mournful Queen contains the white star of Alikka. Alikka, queen of the titans, was known in the south as the Dawnstar, a figure who shone with white light said to have illuminated the lands of Thain. Though beautiful, she remains a sad figure, mournful of the family she lost. Those born beneath the sign of Alikka are said to have a strong sense of duty and a willingness to protect others, but rarely find happiness. The Unfathomed Dreamer contains the Flickering star of Itiia! So named, for she is said to have stepped from the wildest dreams of men and women alike. A lesser titan of beauty, she was a graceful songstress, a learned sage and philosopher, and a power to be reckoned with in her own right. Some is believed to have been slain by the titan king himself, after she refused to bind herself to him. Those born beneath the Unfathomed Dreamer are said to hold a captivating voice and a magnetic personality. The Warrior Maiden contains the azure star of Ismeine. The eldest daughter of king Adikiam, Ismeine is said to have thrust her trident into the northlands in a single stroke that covered them in ice. Though Ismeine disappeared in the far north many years ago, she is still worshiped and revered by many of the greatest northern warriors, who invoke her name before their deadliest battles. Those born beneath the Warrior Maiden are said to be ruthless and effective at anything they might attempt, yet these traits leave them lacking in mercy.
